Discover Cypriot History at Cyprus Hotels
Visitors to Cyprus hotels will find some of the most important Neolithic archaeological sites in Europe. The exceptionally well-preserved village of Choiokoitia has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage site status, and was inhabited as early as the 7th Century BC. Famagusta on the east coast of Cyprus– now in the Turkish part of the island – is encircled by heavily fortified walls that were in part designed by Leonardo da Vinci. Alternatively, the Troodos region boasts some of the most impressive Byzantine monasteries you will find anywhere, all of which are richly decorated with murals and icons. The Cyprus Museum in Nicosia houses an extensive collection of Cypriot artefacts, which allow a fascinating insight into the island’s ancient past.
