Shirley Temple was a world famous child actress. When she grew up she naturally got married, took up a new profession, and raised a family. The usually thing that happens when a gal gets married is she loses her family and takes the family name of her husband. In Shirley Temple’s case she did not want to lose the prestige that came with her famous name so she went with the “Name Change” in a most interesting way. She became Shirley Temple-Black. In this way she kept her name and also accepted her husband’s family name. I think taking a hyphenated last name was made very trendy when Shirley Temple did this.
